چکیده

The synthesis, characterization and application of biologically synthesized nanomaterials have become an important branch of nanotechnology. In this paper, we report the synthesis of highly dispersed silver nanoparticles using a dried stem bark of Boswellia ovalifoliolata. Bark extract as the reducing agent and tested the effect on seed germination and seedling growth. After exposing the silver to bark extract, rapid reduction of silver ions was observed leading to the formation of silver nanoparticles in the solution. UV-VIS spectrum of the aqueous medium containing silver nanoparticles showed absorption peak at around 430 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrograph analysis of the silver nanoparticles (SNPs) indicated that they were welldispersed and ranged in size 30-40 nm. Biologically synthesized SNPs were employed to improve the seed germination and seedling growth of Boswellia ovalifoliolata an endemic, endangered and globally threatened medicinal tree species. Four sets of seeds were germinated on Murashige and Skoog (MS) basal medium with various concentrations (10 to 30 μg/ml) of SNPs. Higher percentage (95%) of seed germination found in treated seeds when compare to control. The control seeds (water) took longer time (10 to 20 days) to sprout, whereas all treated seeds sprouted within 10 days. The maximum height (10.6 cm) observed in seedlings treated with SNPs 4 μg/ml. The possible contribution of SNPs is to facilitate the penetration of water and nutrients through seed coat and accelerate the seed germination and seedling growth of Boswellia ovalifoliolata. N. Evaluation of Iinhibition Effect of ZnO Nanoparticles Concentration regarding Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.)

A laboratory trial was conducted to determine whether suspensions of ZnO nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) could interfere with the early growth of fenugreek. This plant species is one of the recommended species by Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Nine concentrations of ZnO NPs (10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, and 5000 mg/L) were prepared in deionized )DI( water (co...

Allelopathic Effects of Medicinal Plants of Lemon Balm, Lemon Verbena and Bitter Apple on Seed Germination and Early Seedling Growth Characteristics of Wild Mustard Weed

Allelopathy refers to the chemical inhibition or stimulation of one species by another which could influence on the growth or germination of other plant and used in control of weed in agricultural practices. In this sense in order to study the possibly allelopathic effects of lemon balm, bitter apple and lemon verbena medicinal plants on control of wild mustard weed, a laboratory experiment was...

Effect of Silver Nanoparticles on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth in Thymus vulgaris L. and Thymus daenensis Celak under Salinity Stress

Germination represents a fundamental stage of plant life highly responsive to change of environmental conditions. Low germination percent and seedling establishment are basic problems in saline regions. One of the sensitive stages of plants to salinity is the germination stage. This study was conducted using a factorial experiment with three factors such as species with two levels (Thymus vulga...

Effect of Drought Stress and its Interaction with Salicylic Acid on Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare Mill.) Germination and Early Seedling Growth

Environmental stress, particularly drought stress can play an important role in reducing plant growth especially during the germination stage in arid and semi-arid regions in Iran. For cultivation of medicinal plants in arid and semi-arid areas, the assessment of their tolerance is very important. In this research, in order to evaluate the effects of salicylic acid pretreatment on enhancement o...

The effect of salinity on seed germination, early seedling growth and anatomical structure of Beta vulgaris

Beta vulgaris belongs to the family Amaranthaceae and was found to have halophytic ancestors. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of sodium chloride on seed germination, therefore the early stages of seedling growth of Beta vulgaris grown under different salinity levels (0, 100, 150 and 200 mM of NaCl) were studied. The experiment was laid out in a completely randomized de...
